Wine/Beverage & Appetizer Pairing Party. Aug 21 – 23

Join us on Aug 22 for an evening of great food, fantastic wine, and friendly competition! Each guest is invited to bring two bottles of wine (or a beverage of choice) and a homemade or artisan appetizer to share with the group — the more creative, the better.

As the evening unfolds, guests will mingle, taste, and explore the art of pairing, discovering how the right bite can elevate a sip and vice versa. Whether you’re a seasoned sommelier or simply someone who enjoys a good glass with good company, there’s a place at the table for you.

A panel of fellow guests will vote on three coveted prizes:

∙           🍷 Best Wine — for the bottle that wowed the crowd

∙           🥗 Best Appetizer — for the dish everyone couldn’t stop reaching for

∙           🏆 Best Pairing — for the duo that was simply made for each other

Come ready to taste, share, and maybe take home a little glory. No formal training required — just an adventurous palate and a willingness to have fun!

Please RSVP with your wine and appetizer selection so we can ensure a delicious variety on the night.

Location TBD, most likely Worton with BYC as a foul weather backup.  This will allow those that can’t get away Friday an opportunity to join in.

Worton Creek Marina

Take a slip or anchor out and dingy in. Worton Creek Marina (410-778-3282) or Dockwa slips $1.50/ft. Don’t forget to tell them you’re with NC3. Worton Creek has confirmed they can handle boats with 6’ drafts.

Bring enough beverages and an appetizer to share for everyone to have a taste. Be prepared to tell us what you’ve picked and why. We will provide 2oz tasting glasses.

This will be a friendly competition for the best beverage, the best appetizer, the best pairing, and the best presentation/story.

For those who wish to arrive Friday for dinner or have a Saturday evening snack/drink after the competition, “The View at Worton Creek” restaurant just opened to rave reviews.

Most of you are familiar with WCM; however, WCM is unique in that it is a true “working marina”.   The current owners have made a business out of buying and refurbishing damaged high-end yachts. There is always an interesting project boat in the yard to investigate. From their website:

In the 19th and early 20th century, Worton Creek had an active steamboat route, and a steamboat wharf on the site served as a hub for steamboats that transported produce, goods and people in an era before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

In 1949, in response to the growing number of recreational boaters and sailors, Bill and Eleanor Fairlie purchased the property with plans to create a marina. The property still had the old steamboat wharf as well as a farmhouse and a barn. The Fairlies converted the wharf building into the marina store, adding docks and fuel sales. They quickly expanded the facility, building a restaurant with bath houses in the basement, a marine railway and a red shop building for repair work.

In 1970, Ken and Marion Roberts purchased Worton Creek Marina and continued to expand. They added more robust haul out capabilities, added an office to the main shop building, and constructed a paint shop, a lower bath house and a swimming pool.

Today, the marina is owned and operated by John and Libby Patnovic, who purchased Worton Creek Marina in 1997. As the third family to own the marina, the Patnovics worked to modernize the facility. They added larger fixed slips, increased the boat lift capacity to accommodate larger boats, built a new, more spacious paint shop, replaced two of the original docks with floating piers and greatly increased the capability of the boat repair operation.

But even as Worton Creek Marina grew in capacity and amenities, it stayed true to the heart of the business—a family-run, mom-and-pop marina where clients and boaters are on a first-name basis. With a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere, excellent customer service, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the creek, we are proud to honor the legacy of our marina for years to come.
