At 1PM we will tour the Naval Academy’s Museum in Preble Hall. It is incredible!\nThis will leave time to explore the city before dinner. We are trying something\, rarely done with NC3. We are heading north. Don’t worry\, we have studied and verified that the world is round and that you will not fall off the edge of the planet\, if you sail beyond the Northern boundaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Not only that you can actually swim off your boat without being stung by sea nettles by heading north. \nOnce in Delaware City we will take a day and head over to Fort Delaware. Situated on Pea Patch Island in the middle of the Delaware River\, Fort Delaware was initially constructed in the mid-1800s to protect Wilmington and Philadelphia from enemy attack. Fort Delaware served that role through WWI. The fort was among the most state-of-the-art in the nation when it was completed and housed prisoners of war during the Civil War due to its relative isolation. Within the walls of Fort Delaware\, visitors can also see Battery Torbert. Along the Prison Camp Trail lies the entrance to the mine casemate that controlled the mines that were deployed in the river in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Pea Patch Heronry is one of the largest mixed species nest colony for herons\, egrets\, and ibis in the eastern United States. Other nesters that can be found on the island include osprey and bald eagles. Once we arrive at Fairlee we can grab a slip at Great Oaks Landing or drop your hook in the protected waters of Fairlee creek. Great Oaks landing is a beautiful Marina that has a sandy beach and fire rings. Saturday we will enjoy the marina\, have lunch\, maybe a swim in the pool. Dinner is on your own\, you can have dinner in the restaurant or on your boat. I hope we can have Happy hour on the beach down from Jellyfish Joels and watch a beautiful sunset. \nSunday get your dingy read as we will head east to explore the back of Fairlee creek. Many of us have not been very far past the entrance to Great Oaks landing Marina. Did you know the creek goes back another 2.5 miles? We can lash up the dinghies and head out to see the great unknown. Bring hats and sunscreen as we are roughing it with as we head back to the back of the creek. I am sure it will be beautiful. Once we return we can have lunch and take naps. Sunday evening we will head over to our favorite place Worton creek only 4.5 miles away. \nAt Worton you can take a slip or drop the hook. The idea is to sail in at Sunset. Dinner is on your own again. After dark\, find a friend and enjoy a night cap before heading in for a good night’s sleep. Monday there is always the early birds that want to get home. Those that want to stay a little longer after breakfast since we have the dinghy ready we can go for a dingy tour of Wortons back creeks. The last time I saw lots of beavers swimming in the creek and a ton of bald eagles. We will return in time for a bite of brunch and head back across the bay to our home slips.
