SUMMARY:Wine/Beverage & Appetizer Pairing Party. Aug 21 - 23
DESCRIPTION:Wine/Beverage & Appetizer Pairing Party. Aug 21 – 23 \nJoin us on Aug 22 for an evening of great food\, fantastic wine\, and friendly competition! Each guest is invited to bring two bottles of wine (or a beverage of choice) and a homemade or artisan appetizer to share with the group — the more creative\, the better. \nAs the evening unfolds\, guests will mingle\, taste\, and explore the art of pairing\, discovering how the right bite can elevate a sip and vice versa. Whether you’re a seasoned sommelier or simply someone who enjoys a good glass with good company\, there’s a place at the table for you. \nA panel of fellow guests will vote on three coveted prizes: \n∙           🍷 Best Wine — for the bottle that wowed the crowd \n∙           🥗 Best Appetizer — for the dish everyone couldn’t stop reaching for \n∙           🏆 Best Pairing — for the duo that was simply made for each other \nCome ready to taste\, share\, and maybe take home a little glory. No formal training required — just an adventurous palate and a willingness to have fun! \nPlease RSVP with your wine and appetizer selection so we can ensure a delicious variety on the night. \nLocation TBD\, most likely Worton with BYC as a foul weather backup.  This will allow those that can’t get away Friday an opportunity to join in. \nWine/Beverage and Appetizer Pairing…Saturday August 22 \nWorton Creek Marina\nTake a slip or anchor out and dingy in. Worton Creek Marina (410-778-3282) or Dockwa slips $1.50/ft. Don’t forget to tell them you’re with NC3. Worton Creek has confirmed they can handle boats with 6’ drafts. \nBring enough beverages and an appetizer to share for everyone to have a taste. Be prepared to tell us what you’ve picked and why. We will provide 2oz tasting glasses. \nThis will be a friendly competition for the best beverage\, the best appetizer\, the best pairing\, and the best presentation/story. \nFor those who wish to arrive Friday for dinner or have a Saturday evening snack/drink after the competition\, “The View at Worton Creek” restaurant just opened to rave reviews. \nMost of you are familiar with WCM; however\, WCM is unique in that it is a true “working marina”.   The current owners have made a business out of buying and refurbishing damaged high-end yachts. There is always an interesting project boat in the yard to investigate. From their website: \nIn the 19th and early 20th century\, Worton Creek had an active steamboat route\, and a steamboat wharf on the site served as a hub for steamboats that transported produce\, goods and people in an era before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. \nIn 1949\, in response to the growing number of recreational boaters and sailors\, Bill and Eleanor Fairlie purchased the property with plans to create a marina. The property still had the old steamboat wharf as well as a farmhouse and a barn. The Fairlies converted the wharf building into the marina store\, adding docks and fuel sales. They quickly expanded the facility\, building a restaurant with bath houses in the basement\, a marine railway and a red shop building for repair work. \nIn 1970\, Ken and Marion Roberts purchased Worton Creek Marina and continued to expand. They added more robust haul out capabilities\, added an office to the main shop building\, and constructed a paint shop\, a lower bath house and a swimming pool. \nToday\, the marina is owned and operated by John and Libby Patnovic\, who purchased Worton Creek Marina in 1997. As the third family to own the marina\, the Patnovics worked to modernize the facility. They added larger fixed slips\, increased the boat lift capacity to accommodate larger boats\, built a new\, more spacious paint shop\, replaced two of the original docks with floating piers and greatly increased the capability of the boat repair operation. \nBut even as Worton Creek Marina grew in capacity and amenities\, it stayed true to the heart of the business—a family-run\, mom-and-pop marina where clients and boaters are on a first-name basis. With a comfortable\, welcoming atmosphere\, excellent customer service\, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the creek\, we are proud to honor the legacy of our marina for years to come. \nPaul & Dottie Borchardt \nS/V Tenacity     padozary1@gmail.com 610-633-7831 \n\nRegistrations are closed for this event \n \nNot yet a member? SUMMARY:UCS Boaters Boat Show / Sept 11 - Sept 13
DESCRIPTION:Cruise to the Anchorage Marina\, on the Patapsco\, in the heart of Baltimore.  Participate in the Show & Tell Boat Show. See many great boats and some really spectacular boat projects\, complete and in progress. \nThe Boaters Boat Show is not your typical showroom floor packed with gleaming\, untouched vessels waiting for a buyer—it’s something far more authentic\, more soulful. This is a show dedicated to the heart and soul of cruising classics—boats with stories\, with character\, with salt in their wood and wisdom in their wakes. These are boats that have been lived in\, loved\, and customized by their owners over years of adventure.\n\nHere\, it’s not about price tags or spec sheets. It’s about conversation. It’s about pulling up alongside a seasoned captain and asking\, “What made you fall in love with this boat?” It’s about hearing what they’ve added\, modified\, reinforced\, or simply endured—because that’s what cruising is really about. You’ll find everything from clever DIY upgrades to finely tuned systems that reflect thousands of miles of experience.\n\nThis show celebrates the bond between boater and boat. The quirks\, the triumphs\, the annoyances\, the “I wish I knew that before” moments. Whether it’s a classic trawler\, a salty ketch\, or a battle-hardened liveaboard\, every boat here is a piece of living maritime history—and every owner is a chapter in that story.\n\nCome for the boats. Stay for the stories. This is the Boaters Boat Show: where passion floats.\nAnchorage Marina will host us this year! \nLook on the events page of the UCS group for the RSVP. I’m only posting it here to reach as many of us as possible. \nCall the Marina directly for slips. They will be giving us a better rate than Dockwa. \nMention you are going for the Boater’s Boat Show/Upper Chesapeake Sailing Group \nEmail:     Receptiondesk@AnchorageMarina.com \nCall:   (410) 522-7200 \nStreet Address:   2501 Boston Street\, Baltimore\, MD\, 21224 \nDirections by Sea: \nFrom the Chesapeake Bay\, enter the Patapsco River. At Fort McHenry\, bear to starboard entering the Northwest Harbor. Follow East\, then West channel. Anchorage Marina is on starboard\, located at 39.16.77 / 076.34.96. \nWater depth into the marina exceeds 10′. \nThe receptionist is Junyay. \nThe Dockmaster is Wayne Easton. \nThe marina is on the promenade on the waterfront\, with the waterfront and Pusser’s both an easy walk away. The boaters’ boat show will be on Saturday during the day\, and there is a band playing at the marina Saturday evening. \nIf anyone feels like bringing some instruments\, we can have a jam session\, too. We will break the boats into groups for visitation. We will do that as we get closer and we get a sense of how many will be in attendance. \nThis will be awesome!! \n\n\n\n	\n	\n RegisterRegister\n\n\n	Join 3 others!	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n First*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Last*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Email*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Mobile Phone (For text communication during the event)*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Crew Size (Including the Captain)*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Vessel Name\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Additional Comments\n \n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n Comments\n \n \n If you are a human\, do not fill in this field \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n \n Already registered?\n Already registered? \n\n \n Use this tool to manage your registration. \n \n\n \n \n Enter your registered email address*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \nNot yet a member? SUMMARY:Full Moon Scavenger Hunt Cruise Oct 10 - Oct 11
DESCRIPTION:We will sail to Swan Creek and throughout the day there will be a scavenger hunt with BIG\, BIG prizes for the first\, second and third place winners. You can get a slip at Swan Creek Marina\, pick up a mooring ball there or anchor in the creek. We will meet at the picnic area in the marina at 4:00PM for Happy Hour. Bring your own drink and an appetizer to share. Don’t forget to bring your scavenger hunt results along with your proof. More information and rules below. \nWe will ooh and aah at the full moon later that night\, as no one really wants to sail around crab pots in the near dark. \nEach boat will be provided with a list of items that can typically be found in marinas or out on the water. Each item will have points associated with it. Proof that you found an item must in the form of an image on your phone/camera. \nSince we are not all at the same marina the list will be provided by email a day or two before so you can print it out and check off items as you find and photograph them. All images must be taken on the day of the event. \nDuring Happy Hour you will be randomly paired with another boat to check and tally each other’s results. \nThe Scavenger Hunt will begin on October 10 at 8:00AM and end with Happy Hour at 4:00PM. All photos must be taken within that time frame. \nMay the best eagle eyes win. \n\n\n\n	\n	\n RegisterRegister\n\n\n	Join 5 others!	\n\n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n First*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Last*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Email*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Mobile Phone (For text communication during the event)*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Crew Size (Including the Captain)*\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Vessel Name\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Additional Comments\n \n \n \n\n\n \n\n \n Comments\n \n \n If you are a human\, do not fill in this field \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n	\n\n\n \n Already registered?\n Already registered? \n\n \n Use this tool to manage your registration. \n \n\n \n \n Enter your registered email address*\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \nNot yet a member? SUMMARY:Sultana Downrigging Cruise - Chestertown - 10/30 11/01
DESCRIPTION:What do you get when you combine the largest annual gathering of Tall Ships in North America\, a top-notch Bluegrass festival\, and one of the coolest small towns in America on a beautiful river? The Sultana Education Foundation’s Downrigging Weekend. Featuring three days of music\, sailing\, ship tours\, lectures\, exhibits\, and family activities\, there is no festival like it anywhere. And the best part . . . all proceeds from the festival benefit the Foundation’s environmental literacy programs and the other educational nonprofits participating in the festival. \nInfo on the Downrigging Event Click HERE! \nThe plan as of now is to stay at Lankford Bay Marina and use the marina courtesy van to commute the 20-minute trip to the event each day. It all depends on how many sign up\, so sign up today!  Alternatively\, the Chester River Yacht Club has agreed to put us on a waiting list for slips. This facility has a restaurant on site and is only a short mile south of town. Let Steve Allan know at stevenallan.acip@gmail.com if you want your boat to be added to the waiting list.
